Judge’s Commentary;
Lois Fowler Barrett's book, When the Earthquakes Spoke, is based on an extremely intriguing plot. In fact, it's one of the most unique plots I've read in a long time. Her use of accurate historic details easily fold into this fictional novel – they don’t slow down the easy flow of Barrett’s narrative. The details also give the story a large amount of credibility.
On that note, the characters` realistic dialogue makes them sound like typical people who lived during that era. This fact furthers the credibility of When the Earthquakes Spoke.
Finally, Barrett is skilled at writing imaginative scenery descriptions. Each setting described is very detailed and vibrant, creating wonderful scenes for a great fictional novel. This makes it easy for readers to picture the places in which Cam and Rebecca live.
