Three cousins went out of their way to be entertained one fateful night over fifty years ago when Freeman mine near Pittsburg was under construction.
It was dark and easy to slip out of the house in the country. The three, all girls found tree limbs—big ones—at the side of the road. They knew the mine was blasting on a daily basis, and wouldn’t it be fun to pull the trees across the road and stop traffic? Not that there was much traffic back then, just locals going home once in awhile.
Well, they hid in the ditch alongside the road—which was deep enough to hide skinny little string-haired girls—and waited impatiently for someone to come along. It was a few minutes later that a neighbor, who by the way was employed at the mine, stopped short of the limbs and sat patiently with his wife, awaiting a blast if indeed that was what was underway.
How long he sat there was not something they could calculate, but eventually he opened the car door and stepped out. He stood looking northeast toward the mine, then slowly walked to the tree limbs, removing them one by one. He drove on, stopped, and lo and behold, he put the limbs back in place.
Outbursts of laughter were smothered by hand.
After he left, they girls decided they had better remove the tree limbs and go home before someone caught them. It was fun and they were pleased with themselves for the great sham portrayed upon the neighbor.

However, the next morning, three bright red girls went to mama and aunt with itchy skin and blisters. Poison ivy! What fun they had getting poison ivy!
Needless to say, the cousin from town was never allowed to spend the night again.
